Is this not a beautiful and seemingly easy way to decorate your table for a shower, birthday, or maybe just because? Love! I want to do this immediately.

The past few days have been warm, ok, hot! It’s a little preview of what summer will bring. One of our favorite dishes is fish tacos. And I say it’s one of our favorites because my husband takes full responsibility for making it. He even opened the corona.
Tonight was one of those evenings when it wasn’t too hot, nor too cool. It was just the perfect temperature to be sitting outside enjoying the night. Listening to the shouts of the other kids in the neighborhood, the crickets beginning their night songs, and the smell of the neighbors charcoal BBQ.
I made the dessert . . . blackberries. It’s a very simple recipe.
Our picky eater didn’t hesitate to ask me to refill the bowl. The boy loves him some berries in his big belly.
And even the dog, Maddie, was happy to have a nice dinner outside. Even if she doesn’t like fish tacos or blackberries.
What is your go to summer meal?
Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!
It’s been semi-quiet here on the blog, but that is because we’ve been working on new birthday invitations and baby shower invitations for our Etsy shop. First up, here are some of our new baby shower invitations:
What do you think? Is there a baby shower theme you would love to see? Let us know! We’re always looking for new ideas.

Jackson has begun to transform his constant babble into a few words here and there. Other than the basic, ‘mama’, ‘dada’, and ‘baba’ he has begun to identify other items when we are out and about. If he sees a dog then we have to prepare for a couple minute freak out session. ’Daw! Daw!’ he shouts as he points at the poor dog who, owner consenting, will be poked and prodded. ’Woof, woof,’ is the next thing out of his mouth. If he hears a dog barking in the distance he smiles and barks right on back.

We’ve been playing in the bathtub with rubber duckies, he has some on the floor of the tub as well. He quickly picked up on duck, which sounds more like, ‘Duh, Duh,’ and identifies little ducks in books, on his toys, on tv shows. This display has made me realize how much toddlers really understand even when they can’t communicate it in words.

Balls and balloons are an excited, ‘Ba, Ba, Ba!’ He throws them, mostly backwards, but is quite pleased with himself. And we were quite pleased until this became throwing everything without regard for how much an iPhone in the face may or may not hurt.
And this one combines dog and balloon:

Pretty sure Jax would do everything in his power to destroy this ‘dog-alloon’.
What were your kids’ first words?

I found this via my sister’s pinterest boards. It’s a print from The Memory Gallery on etsy. It would be a really special gift for a mom or dad (if you are fairly certain your baby making days are over). And, FYI, Mother’s Day is just around the corner . . . start planning now for those special gifts.
I am hoping for something a bit more practical like a compost bin, or a small cast iron skillet, or running athletic shoes.
To follow up with last week’s missing sippy cup post. I have some questions for you all. Pictured above is the remaining hoodie, the remaining sippy/bottle and, actually, a missing sippy cup. Sa-weet, another missing baby item.
I have two tasks weighing on me to get started one is potty training and the second is getting him off of the silicone sippy from thinkBaby. We love it, but he’s started using it as a pacifier a little bit and I’d like to get him started on something where he can’t push the nipple in and pour milk all over himself. Since potty training seems ever so daunting let’s talk about sippy cups.
So far the only other sippy cup he has liked is the one pictured above by boon called fluid. It seems to fit into his mouth well and it’s easy to grasp. The only problem I have with it is that it’s hard to take ‘on-the-go’. I like a traditional bottle shape to stick in the diaper bag or cup holder. And don’t get me started on how the thinkBaby bottles don’t fit in a BOB snack tray accessory. Sigh.
We have tried the OXO tot Sippy pictured below. I don’t know if we just purchased a bunk cup, but it leaked more than any other cup we have tried.
We also have the Kleen Kanteen with the Avent’s sippy spout pictured below. We have another sippy that uses the Avent zippy spout as well. Jackson will drink out of these but not very much and he usually pushes it away when offered.

So what products do you all recommend? Any sippy’s you love? Or any I should avoid? Do I just pull the silicone sippy cold turkey or keep it at bed time. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
And if you have potty training tips feel free to comment below too. I haven’t been able to get as far as seeing how many different mini toilets they have for sale. How do I choose?
Forget the chocolate this year. Fill your lovely Easter Morning with Bunnies and Books. Buy Modern Baby had a great round up a couple weeks ago of traditional pairings.
Here are a few of my favorites. For all of them please take a look at Buy Modern Baby’s page for information on the details of the items. She had a bunny week so there are lots of fun modern bunny finds.
I LOVE Pat the Bunny. The story is so fun for little ones. Our copy is torn into multiple pages now and the only one we really use is the, ‘Now you play Peek-a-boo with Paul’ page. Over, and over, and over.

Everyone should have a copy of the Velveteen Rabbit. It’s a classic and it will stand the test of time.

What’s going in your Easter baskets this year? I haven’t really started anything, and I don’t think Jackson will care too much but for the sake of photos and just knowing I’m not the only mom on the planet not preparing a lovely little basket for my tot I better get something simple together . . . maybe a new copy of Pat the Bunny with all the pages?
Aw, she looks _________
For some reason, I find that people have a need to assign some state to Eleanor when we are around. I typically smile and just ignore the comments, but on my more sensitive days it makes me feel like they think I am somehow inadequate as a parent. Deep down I know they are just making conversation and have good intentions but in a sleep deprived state and on repetition it starts to get old. The most frequent statements (with what my sensitive state hears) are as follows:
“Aw, she looks tired!” (I am putting my priorities in front of my baby’s nap schedule, or I am not tuned in enough to know when she is tired)
“Aw, she looks hungry!” (I am ignoring my child’s need for nourishment or cannot read her cues)
“Aw, she must be cold!” (I did not dress my child appropriately for the weather)
Again, 99% of the time I think nothing of these statements, but the other 1% makes me pause and reflect on two things: 1) do I do this to others? and 2) why do we feel this compulsion to assign an emotion/state to babies? Most of the time when people say Eleanor is tired and/or hungry, she has just gotten up from a nap and been fed (because that is when we go for our outings). In reality she is most likely just taking everything in or overstimulated from our excursion.
Does anyone else share my sentiment with comments from people about your child? Am I just being overly analytical? What comments do people make that bother you?
