Does he do what you ask?

A few weeks ago Jackson had his 1 year check-up.  I think it must be pretty standard for the doctor to ask questions about whether or not he’s doing certain things, like, picking up small items with is fingers, babbling, walking, talking, etc.  Jax is, for the most part, on schedule.  (He was saying more words, but since he started walking he stopped talking as much.) The question that threw …continue…

Sweet dreams.

(Sleeping on our plane flight back from Phoenix in January) I thought I’d chime in on all this sleep talk, with some good news. Even bad sleepers can become good sleepers. We had a rough go of it at the beginning (I’m starting to finally get over it so I’m not going to rehash) and sleeping was honestly the least of my worries until Jackson was about 13 weeks. I …continue…

Eleanor Finley: A Birth Story Part II

Birth Story Part I left off right when I was about to take the induction drugs, so here we go with Part II. The drug they gave me was Misoprostol–and induction drug that is supposed to be slower-acting and is administered orally.  They started me out with half a dose to see how my body would respond, telling me to lay down and get some sleep, and hopefully when I …continue…

Eleanor Finley: A Birth Story Part I

Well, the long-awaited (maybe, maybe not) birth story.  I’ll try and give details without giving too many details, but if you want any information about any part of the process I’ll be happy to share in an email.  I started to write this in its entirety but apparently I’m quite verbose, so I decided to break it up into two parts.  Part I is leading up to the actual active …continue…

Breastfeeding Update

(image courtesy of Edyta Szyszlo Photography) At six weeks I think I can say we have turned a corner, for real this time (knock on wood).  Of course there will still be hiccups since mastitis, clogged ducts and thrush can creep up at any time, but for now I think I might be on my way to actually enjoying nursing. Around 5.5 weeks I started to notice that I was …continue…

1st Birthday Party

You can count on a party to get your house into shape. We spent most of the weekend finally putting the house together since our move last month. We were hanging curtains, organizing closets, hanging shelves, hanging a pendant lamp in our room, swapping out the not-so-lovely bathroom hardware for new pretty hardware, trying to make our not-so-presentable yard more presentable and so many other little honey-dos. Unfortunately that meant …continue…

See you next year!

As a kid (and as an adult too, sadly), my favorite joke during this time of the year was ‘see you next year!’ So unless I get a hankering to post something in the next few hours (which probably won’t happen) . . . then it will be next year before we meet again.  It sounds like an eternity! It actually looks like an eternity.  This was poor, tired exhausted …continue…

A Month as a Mom

Erica posted about a year as a mom, and here I am 11 months behind, with one month of motherhood under my belt.  I can’t believe we’ve had little Eleanor at home for 4 weeks now!  We’ve gotten through the month with a lot of blood, sweat and tears as well as many smiles and laughter and overwhelming love. (us on day 1) Overall we’re doing really great.  Of course …continue…

Brieanne’s Tea & Tales Shower

Ok, so I know Brieanne and Brandon’s daughter, Eleanor, was born a month ago today. But I am finally posting on Brieanne’s baby shower.  We decided on a Tea & Tales shower theme.  We held the event at Crown & Crumpet in San Francisco.  It was the perfect location, suggested by Edyta (who did Brieanne’s maternity photos — put mine to shame, right?).  Absolutely adorable.  No decorations needed.  Plus they …continue…

Happy Holidays!

So I’m a few days late for whichever holiday you celebrate but better late than never, I like to say.  (I think all procrastinators do!) Happy Holidays from our family to yours! This photo you might remember was from our camping trip. We are looking forward to having our walking toddler on our next backpacking trip. Well, he’s not quite walking but getting close. He will only walk when the …continue…

A year as a mom

One of our guest bloggers this past month was Chandra from Oh Lovely Day with her son’s Circus Birthday DIY.  On monday she had a very wonderful and personal post about her first year as a mother.  I wanted to share it with all of you because it really brought a tear to my eye.  A tear of sympathy for Chandra, a tear for myself and all that I have …continue…

Update from the Trenches

Eleanor, just hours old Hello from maternity leave!  I just wanted to check in to say I’m alive and to give a few brief updates.  I’ll do a full official post with better pictures, etc., but for now you’ll see some highlights from my iphone photos.  Sidenote: I hate that I’ve been so horrible about taking real pictures of Eleanor!  I just know these days are going to fly by …continue…
