Nursery for a Little Fireman

In Friday’s post I shared some photos of our trip to visit Jessi and Weston.  We missed their husband/dad during our day trip to Capitola.  He is a firefighter in the East Bay and was on a four day shift that weekend.  For the children of firefighters it’s important to remind them of the special work their parent performs when they are gone for days at a time.  We should all remember the sacrifice and risk these men and women take on everyday.  So here’s a nursery design to honor our heroes.

The firefighter theme is nothing new.  There’s a lot of furniture out there with fire engines, or firemen painted on them.  I wanted to take it up a notch and as we try to do keep it less baby and more modern and classic.  As usual I fell in love with something on etsy . . . who wouldn’t fall in love with that stoic dalmation?  The bright red crib sets the tone in all it’s fire engine red glory.  I brought in some touches of yellow and blue to balance the strong reds.  A soft grey wall color ties the bright colors together.

The chevron rug pattern brings a wonderful texture into the room and evokes a certain order and simplicity that reminds me of coiled fire hose.  I would also consider this rug in a yellow and white, but I couldn’t find an affordable option.  So, if you’re up for it, you can always go the DIY route.  There are lots of tutorials to create your own customized chevron rug.  I think my dining table might be needing something to stand on soon.
