Kissaluv diaper pictured above. We were hanging out on the aero bed that was filled up in Jackson’s room for Grandma and Grandpa’s visit from Seattle. Isn’t Maddie the sweetest dog? She loves her little boy.
Following up on the cloth diapers post. We’ve been using the new diapers for a couple of weeks now and I have to say that I’m loving the cloth diapers. They are so much easier than I thought they would be. I love doing laundry and hate taking out the garbage so really it’s a win-win. The big challenge will be when Jax starts eating solids. I hear the poop gets more “fun” after that. We’re actually having some pooping issues of our own already. He isn’t as, ahem, regular as we would like but we are sorting that out. That’s a whole new post in and of itself.
So which diapers do I like the best? I came into this thinking I would like the FuzziBunz the best and maybe the bumGenius a close second. I actually like all of the diapers and found all of them easy to use and generally the fit was fine.

(1) Kissaluv’s Marvels One-Size All-in-One Diaper
I surprised myself by liking the Kissaluv Marvel diaper the best. (This is what he’s wearing in the first photo.) It still has some drawbacks but it fits him the best and I don’t need to shake out the insert. I can always add another insert for overnight diapers too. The adjustability appears to be very good as well. The only drawback I have found is that they create a big booty! Part of the way they fit at the back makes for a rounder bottom but they also haven’t leaked and all of the others (except fuzzibunz size small) have leaked.

Fuzzibunz Perfect Size
I did really like the FuzziBunz Perfect Size diapers as well. I can’t say they were #1 because, unlike a one-size diaper, Jackson will grow out of these at some point and I’ll need to buy a whole new set. But if money wasn’t an object the size small fit him like a glove and you wouldn’t know he was wearing a cloth diaper when his clothes are on. No J. Lo booty here. We also have the size medium, which doesn’t fit very well yet. But I know that they will eventually.

Bummis Easy Fit Diaper
The Bummis were great at first, until I had Jackson in my lap. I was thinking to myself (maybe outloud?) that I really liked these diapers. The velcro made it so easy and I liked that the liner was attached. Plus the orange color we have is so happy. Then no more than five seconds later a loud sound erupts from Jackson and I felt something warm oozing onto my stomach. So the fit wasn’t perfect. But I think when he’s a bit bigger these will fit much better.

bumGenius 4.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper with Snap Enclosures
The bumGenius One-Size is a wonderful diaper. I think I will try their velcro closure version next. I wonder which holds up better in the long run, snaps or velcro? These fit Jax pretty well. No leaks yet. And I love their inserts. They are thick and super long so you can fold them to double up where you need extra absorbency. they also include a second insert to add in at bedtime.

Fuzzibunz One-Size Diaper
For some reason the angles of the FuzziBunz closures just don’t fit Jax’s body very well unless they are small enough (like the small sized diapers). We have had lots of leaks from these diapers. (Maybe I just haven’t found the right snaps?) I do really like the feel of them, the absorbency of the insert, and the fact that the elastic around the leg opening can be replaced with the extra elastic band. I wish that the bottom snaps were positioned differently to get a better fit and I wish the inserts were longer. The other difference between FuzziBunz and all of the other diapers is that at the backside they dont have an extra piece of fabric to hold in the insert, it just sticks out the back. These are the slimmest of all of the diapers so they are a great out and about diaper and will fit under lots different types of pants.
Those are my initial reactions to the diapers I ordered to start my cloth diapering adventure. Really if at all possible I would suggest buying a couple types and trying them out before you go ahead and buy 20 diapers. Most likely you will be fine with any of the well reviewed diapers out there and I like having a little variety. Now as Jackson grows I will have some options and see what might fit him better when he’s a little bigger and pick up a few of those. There’s nothing wrong with having different types of diapers, just gives you more options and they all do the same job. Plus it is nice to have some cloth diapers on hand in case you run out of disposables, which happened to us early on. Then I overcompensated by buying way too many diapers and now I have a huge box of extra size two diapers.
Originally I thought we would keep Jax in disposables at bedtime to avoid leaky diapers on the sheets. But we have changed our thinking based on two main reasons. One, the supposedly unscented, sensitive Pampers Swaddlers actually smell very bad. The chemical smell is annoying as I’m trying to go to sleep. Secondly, Jackson is also teething big time so his digestive system is on overdrive and he is getting a little bit of diaper rash so cloth diapers are better right now for him. Unfortunately I have 200 or so size 3 diapers left. I’ll still need disposables for the diaper bag just in case and when we are on vacation. I am planning on trying a few other brands though, maybe seventh generation, to see if there is a less smelly diaper that will also be absorbent enough for overnight . . . any ideas?
I’ll be picking up some more bumGenius and Kissaluv’s to add to the eight diapers I have already. I’m also getting the Kissaluv pail liner. I hope it fits the can we have from simplehuman.
Any suggestions on cloth diapering solutions you love? Hate? I’d love to do another write up with your input.
